Voices of 1927: First publication Now Available

The first publication of Voices of 1927 is now out.

Developed as part of the League Against Imperialism Centennial Campaign (LAI27), Voices of 1927 revisits the historic speeches delivered at the 1927 Brussels Congress against Colonial Oppression and Imperialism and brings them into dialogue with the struggles and challenges of our time.

This first edition, focused on the Americas, was produced in collaboration with ALBA Movimientos and Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.

At the centre of the publication is the intervention of Uruguayan anti-imperialist thinker Carlos Quijano, who spoke in Brussels in 1927 on behalf of the Latin American delegations and called for the struggles of oppressed peoples across the world to be united.

Nearly a century later, his words are placed alongside historical and archival material, a biographical contribution by Daniel Kersffeld, and a contemporary reflection by Laura Capote of ALBA Movimientos, connecting the debates of 1927 with the realities facing Latin America and the Caribbean today.

Voices of 1927 is not simply about remembering the past. It seeks to recover these histories as a resource for the present: connecting generations of struggle, strengthening international solidarity, and renewing anti-imperialist internationalism for the twenty-first century.

This is the first of three publications in the Voices of 1927 series, which will continue to explore voices from the historic Brussels Congress and their relevance today.
