Bogotá Meeting on Palestine Decides Concrete Measures to Halt Genocide

Several conveners of the League Against Imperialism Centennial Campaign attended the Emergency Conference on Palestine in Bogotá, Colombia on July 15–16. With Progressive International’s co-convener Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla serving as the Executive Secretary of The Hague Group, one of them played a key role in organizing the event.

Convened by The Hague Group’s co-chairs Colombia and South Africa, the meeting brought together representatives from 30 states across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas to discuss collective action grounded in international law. The conference culminated in a joint call for the enforcement of international law. To initiate this process, twelve states committed to implementing the following measures through their domestic legal systems to end complicity with Israel’s genocide in Palestine:

1. Prevent the provision or transfer of arms, munitions, military fuel, related equipment, and dual-use items to Israel.

2. Prevent the transit, docking, and servicing of vessels in territorial ports suspected of aiding Israel’s military operations.

3. Ban the carriage of arms and related materials to Israel on vessels bearing their flag, in compliance with international law, including de-flagging violators.

4. Review public contracts to ensure public institutions and funds do not support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory.

5. Fulfill obligations to prosecute serious international crimes through independent investigations at national or international levels.

6. Support universal jurisdiction mandates within their legal frameworks and judiciaries.

This conference marks the most ambitious international effort to date to halt the genocide in Palestine. It also demonstrates that the Spirit of Bandung—the legacy of resistance against imperialist and colonial violence—remains alive. Notably, League Against Imperialism Centennial Campaign conveners Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng and Jeremy Corbyn lent their support, while the People’s Health Movement (one of the campaign-supporting networks) helped organize local civil society mobilization for the initiative.
